The Colony

About The Colony, TX

With 23 miles of shoreline and beautiful lake views for as far as you can see, The Colony has become one of Texas’ best-kept secrets. Known as the City by the Lake, those who live here enjoy immersing themselves in the outdoors. With hundreds of acres of wildlife, visitors and residents alike enjoy camping, swimming, boating, hiking, cycling, and picnicking.

Younger than many of the cities in Texas, The Colony wasn’t incorporated until 1977. A few years prior, in 1974, a Dallas-based land developer, Fox and Jacobs, purchased 2,500 acres of land along the eastern shore of Lake Lewisville. The name, The Colony, was chosen because the developers felt a strong sense of kinship with Texas’ early settlers and wanted to memorialize the spirit of Peters Colony. The first families moved into their homes in October 1974.
